The first of the big American summer conventions has come to a close and David "Teaches-The-Young" Lindsey gives us the report on the Rage tournaments.
Date: Tue Jul 10, 2001 8:13 pm From: David Lindsey To: rageinfo@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Rage] Origins Results Greetings Brothers and Sisters, Sorry to keep you in suspense, but I was waiting for word from Fenris before I divulged the results. I will start with the Apocalypse tournament. To start on a sour note we had a grand total of four (4) players for Apocalypse. With that to work with we decided to play two throw down rumbles and total the points. On a good note (my opinion) we all had Gaia decks. In order to make it a little more interesting, we played to 25 points rather than 20. Here's how the cookie crumbled: values are listed Wyrm Kills / Gaia Kills Player Round 1 Round 2 Totals Dan Kills-with-Numbers 8/0 12/0 20/0 = 20 Teaches-the-Young 8/5 15/0 23/5 = 28 Jeremy "Big Stick" S. 0/10 25/7 25/17 = 42 Sees-Through-Lies 4/22 17/7 21/29 = 50 With this result, the statue crafted by Fenris went to Sees. But he already has one of her works, so he passed it to Big Stick. But he had only played because we hounded him to and I loaned him a deck, so he passed it to me. But I also have one of her fine works, so I passed it to Dan. (in all fairness, he actually made a trip to be there. The rest of us live in majestic Dayton which is only about an hour from Columbus.) Thus ended Friday Night. Tribal War had a better turn out, but again due to our Caern. We had 11 players for this event. One of course being Dan KwN. We also had an old friend of Dances-in-the-Ruins who we ran into that day. He had never played Rage before, but was willing to give it a try. So true to form we gave him a deck, taught him how to play, and threw him to the... well you know. The other 9 players were all members of SPC. We split into two games of four players and one of three and played 3 qualifying rounds. We then added totals and the top four played for final standings. Stats are listed Wyrm Kills | Non-Wyrm Kills | Other. Although Sleeps-with-Wolves ended with a higher Total, The Final round was won by Tom McMillian (I refuse to use that name!) and so he got the option to cull one kill from his victory pile. His choice was Killian Quicktalker whom he killed in the first round. He was also awarded a print of a werewolf picture drawn by Robert A. Kraus which we picked up in the exhibitor hall that afternoon. It can be viewed at www.rakgraphics.com/rakgallery/darkgall/darkgall01 (it's the one in the upper left corner). Mr. Kraus did a quick sketch on the mating and signed it as well. The top four also got to divvy up a massive haul of nice trinkets (Raven talisman, Griffin sketch, WoD figures provided by Fenris ~ two WoD Novels provided by Watcher Alpha) many thanks to you both for your help and generosity. I will be writing up a better overview for Paw Prints when I have a little more time and some pictures to include. I will also send them the top three decks. Final thoughts: I think we were severely hampered by not being listed in the convention books. Most importantly the Pre-reg book. Thursday night we had several people stop by and say hi. They said that they played when they could or at least had the cards, but had not brought any. We need to get into the Pre-reg books so people can come prepared to play. I hope we can get a larger gathering at Gen Con. I look forward to seeing as many of you there as can make it. Teaches-the-Young Silverfang Ahroun Soaring Peace Caern
